The Artistic Legacy of Piero Manzoni
In the 1960s, Piero Manzoni conceived the Socle du monde, an upside-down metal plinth, thus transforming the perception of reality into a work of art. The overturning of the plinth, with the work's title reversed, suggests a revolutionary idea: the world itself seems to rest on it, challenging conventions and rewriting the relationship between art and observer.
Cavenago's 1999 work "To Piero Manzoni" is inspired by this provocative idea, offering an installation that challenges the static nature of the world through a sliding system of four steel wheels resting on a plane. This system suggests the image of an upside-down world, ready to slide like a toy car in the hands of a child. In this homage to Manzoni, Cavenago reinvents the original concept, inviting viewers to reconsider reality.
